Snowy owls

Large snowy owls breed on the arctic tundra where they will lay 3 to 11 eggs. The parents can be extremely territorial with their eggs and will defend the nest against all animals that pass by. When in the wild the snowy owls can live to 9 years. Unlike most owls the snowy owls are active both day and night! The snowy owl's main food is lemmings. Adults can eat 1,600 lemmings a year! The snowy owl makes a loud screeching noise. Snowy owl males get whiter than females. Females snowy owls are darker white with black spots. Elderly males can get completely white.
