Burrowing Owls

The burrowing owls are know for their very long legs and for burrowing in the ground, while most owls live in trees. Unlike other owls the burrowing owls are awake during the day. They have bright yellow eyes, no ear tufts, a flattened facial disc, and white eyebrows. They range to southern and northern America. Before European colonization reached America / the new world, burrowing owls covered all of the new world. Due to deforestation in South America their numbers are decreasing. They are featured in a film called HOOT. There is also a burrowing owl named Digger in a book series called The Guardians of Ga'Hoole.

Eastern screech owls

Eastern screech owls will usually grow to be 16 - 25 cm. They have ear tufts and yellow eyes. Screech owls will mainly feed on large insects. The screech owls endangered rate is on least concern. The screech owls have two color phases, the grey and red phases.
