Bird of the Sea: Chapter One: A New World

His egg tooth started protruding from the egg shell. His eyes were sealed tight shut. He could hear the egg shell cracking around him. His head started popping through the top of the egg. He felt his puny body flop out on to the crevice ledge. He could hear other birds squawking around him.

While laying on the rocky ledge he felt one thought nag at his mind—food. He started peeping rapidly for food. He kept on peeping until he finally felt a large beak slip a small fish down his throat. He then felt a beak pick him up and plop him on a soft pile of twigs and leaves. He felt a beak running through his fluffy feathers preening him. He could feel the large beak plopping more fish down his throat.

The little puffin could then hear muffled voices start speaking up in his ear slits.

"We will name him Thoralf", said a sweet voice quickly.

Then a squeaky little voice spoke up, "Mummy, why is it naked?"

Many questions slammed into the new puffins brain, like what was a mummy? He didn't really even know what a "question" was. The noise of the world was almost too much too bear after being cooped up in an egg for a month.
